IssuesBrecksville faces a number of issues critical to our future. The recent economic environment, expenses related to the flood, and the future closing of the VA hospital have affected our city's budget and planning. Infrastructure demands, facilities maintenance, and vital city services will require continued attention. To keep the character and charm of our community, planned and controlled growth consistent with our city's master will need to be considered.Put simply, I am dedicated to the following:
Serving on our City Council means having an opportunity to influence and shape the future of the community I plan to live in the rest of my life. I am excited about that opportunity, and would find it an honor to serve my neighbors and friends as a member of Brecksville City Council. Interview: The Brecksville Magazine, November 20091. What are your qualifications for this position?Fifteen years experience as a practicing financial advisor positions me to contribute to our city council. Having responsibility for custodianship of approximately $140 million of corporate and private client financial assets, my job is to help advise families and businesses with their important financial decisions. As a Certified Financial Planner, I understand the importance of prudent financial management and can draw on my experience to help our city government. My diverse community efforts and involvement have provided me with an understanding of how our community and city government functions (serving as chairman and five-year member of the Brecksville Recreation Commission, attending city council and committee meetings, studying our city's charter, operating a financial advisory practice located in downtown Brecksville, having three children in our city schools, volunteering as a recreation coach, being the BBHHS JV Head coach, serving on Western Reserve Bank Advisory Board). Most Important, I have a passion for our community. Around the community since 1977 and having graduated from BBHHS in 1987, I have a sense of history and appreciation for Brecksville and for how we evolved. 2. Since tax revenues are down slightly, would you support ending the agreement that gives credit to residents who pay city income tax to another city? From my analysis of our city's finances, ending the agreement is currently not necessary. I would not support ending the agreement. 3. How could regionalism (e.g., shared economic growth, services, equipment, information) benefit or hurt Brecksvile? By combining the purchasing power and eliminating duplication of personnel and equipment, there is a great potential to reduce our expenses. On the other hand, collaboration and shared decision-making bears the likelihood of complication and comprimise. 4. If elected, what would be your highest priority for the upcoming term? Safeguarding our city's financial integrity to ensure our vital city services.
